DESCRIPTION
The SerialComm TTL-485-5P is a very high quality and reliable compact bi-directional 5v powered RS485 to 5V TTL converter which converts half-duplex RS485 to 5V TTL, This converter is perfect for extending the distance of the TTL signal up to 4000 ft (1.2km). This converter is ideal for any demanding application whether indoor in a lab, server room, office, at home or outdoors within the temperature range of -4ºF to 140ºF (-20ºC to 60ºC). This converter features auto sensing data turnaround eliminating the need for software drivers or handshake flow control. The TTL-485-5P has a DB9 male connector on the RS485 end, and DB9 male connector on the TTL end. Two separate terminal blocks with no exposed jumpers are included with purchase. The terminal block plugs into both the RS485 and the TTL end of the converter, providing screw-lug wire terminations for both ports.

DB9 MALE OR TERMINAL BLOCK
Using one TTL-485-5P unit:
Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on one unit: Connect the IN to OUT on the TTL port. Connect the RS485 port to the PC RS485 port. Running a hyper terminal program on the PC, send ASCII characters to the TTL-485-5P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the same PC port. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of the TTL-485-5P unit is working properly.
Using two TTL-485-5P units:
Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on two units: Connect the two TTL ports. Connect TTL IN to TTL OUT and TTL OUT to TTL IN. Connect the two RS485 ports to two PC RS485 ports. Running hyper terminal programs on both PCs, send ASCII characters to the TTL-485-5P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the 2nd PC port. Repeat the test in the opposite direction. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of both TTL-485-5P units are working properly.
