DESCRIPTION
The SerialComm TTL-232-5P is a very high quality and reliable compact bi-directional port-powered RS232 to 5V TTL converter which converts full-duplex RS232 to 5V TTL, This converter is ideal for any demanding application whether indoor in a lab, server room, office, at home or outdoors within the temperature range of -4ºF to 140ºF (-20ºC to 60ºC). The converter is port-powered and derives power by amplifying the RS232 data lines requiring no external power at all. This converter features auto sensing data turnaround eliminating the need for software drivers or handshake flow control. The TTL-232-5P has a DB9 female connector on the RS232 end, and DB9 male connector on the TTL end. A separate terminal block with no exposed jumpers is included with purchase. The terminal block plugs into the TTL end of the converter, providing screw-lug wire terminations for the port.

Using one TTL-232-5P unit:
Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on one unit: Connect the IN to OUT on the TTL port. Connect the RS232 port to the PC RS232 port. Running a hyper terminal program on the PC, send ASCII characters to the TTL-232-5P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the same PC port. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of the TTL-232-5P unit is working properly.
Using two TTL-232-5P unit:
Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on two units: Connect the two TTL ports. Connect the two RS232 ports to two PC RS232 ports. Running hyper terminal programs on both PCs, send ASCII characters to the TTL-232-5P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the 2nd PC port. Repeat the test in the opposite direction. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of both TTL-232-5P units are working properly.
