Frequently Asked Questions
Question 56: HOW IS A LOOPBACK TEST PERFORMED ON A SERIALCOMM 3-WIRE RS-232 ISOLATOR?
Answer: There are two ways to the ISO-232-3P9 3-wire isolator.
Test 1: Connect the ISO-232-3P9 to the PC. If three is continuity in the data stream then it is working. If the ISO-232-3P9 is not being powered properly it will not work at all.
Test 2: You can perform a more detailed voltage test. With the multi-meter perform the following test. Connect Pin 1 to Pin 5 and connect Pin 2 to Pin 3. When data is not present static pin 2 should be 0V and pin 3 should be 5.5V. When data is present pin 2 should be 0V and pin 3 should be 3.7V.
