INDUSTRIAL USB TO 4 PORT RS485/RS422 CONVERTER

DESCRIPTION

The SerialComm USB-4485 is a high quality, high performance industrial-grade bi-directional port powered or external powered 4 port USB to RS485 / RS422 converter housed in a heavy-duty steel case. It can convert any standard full duplex USB port to four RS485 or RS422 ports and is bi-directional half-duplex for RS485 and full duplex for RS422 via COM ports on the host computer. The USB to 4 port RS485 / RS422 converter utilizes the FTDI chipset making it compatible with most computer systems and operating systems. The unit is powered from the USB port and requires no external power but can also be powered with an external power supply. It also features data direction auto-turnaround eliminating the need for flow control.. The USB-4485 features a professional terminal block with optional selectable 120 Ohm termination via a jumper. The USB-4485 has a Type A female connector on the USB side and four DB9 male connectors on the RS485 / RS422 side. The multiple port converter includes 4 professional terminal blocks with optional selectable 120 Ohm termination. The terminal blocks and software drivers are included with the converter.

The USB-4485 uses the latest FTDI chipset and is fully compatible with (32 /64 bits) versions of Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, and 98: Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2, 2008, 2003 R2, 2003 Mac 10.3 – 10.15, and Linux.

Using one USB-4485 unit:

Perform a loop back test on one unit: Connect the TX+ to RX+ and TX- and RX- on one the four RS422 ports. Connect the USB connector on the cable to the USB port of the computer Install the USB-4485 FTDI driver on the computer per instructions provided. Running a hyper terminal program on the PC, send ASCII characters to the USB-4485 converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the same PC port. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of the USB-4485 unit is working properly. When there is constant RX data you should see the associated GREEN light blink. When there is constant TX data you should see the associated RED light blink.

Using two USB-4485 units:

Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on two units: Connect the two D+ to D+ and D- and D- on two USB-4485 RS485 ports. Connect the two USB connectors to the USB ports of the computers. Install the USB-4485 FTDI driver on the computer per instructions provided. Running hyper terminal programs on both PCs, send ASCII characters to the USB-4485 converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the 2nd PC port. Repeat the test in the opposite direction. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of both USB-4485 units are working properly. When there is constant RX data you should see the associated GREEN light blink. When there is constant TX data you should see the associated RED light blink.
